Booksigning: Grégoire Eloy
March 24 @ 18:30 - 20:30

Friday March 24 from 6.30 pm
Grégoire Eloy will be at Micamera to launch his latest two books: OMALO (The Eyes Publishing, 2022) and Ressac (Images Plurielles, 2023).
Booksigning will follow!
OMALO presents a series of photograms by Grégoire Eloy made during a residency for the Tblisi Photo Festival, in Georgia between 2019 and 2020. The photographer questions time, memory and life in this recluse of the Caucasus, while continuing to propose his vision and to question the image itself.
Alternating photograms and their setting in situation, Grégoire Eloy shakes up our perception of what the image is: each shot leading to a photogram (action of the light of the flash on the photosensitive paper placed in the space) and to a view of the setting in situation (image captured by the camera).
Once one of the four largest internal seas in the world, the Aral Sea has been shrinking since the 1960s after the Amou-Daria river was diverted by Russia to water cotton fields. By 2007, it had declined down to 10% of its original size, destroying the fishing industry, employment, and modifying the local climate dramatically.
These images in Ressac were made on both sides of the Aral Sea, in Ouzbekistan and Kazakhstan, between 2008 and 2012; they document the lives of the communities making a living along its shores, whose existence is now seriously threatened by human greed.
