When I notice an unusual odour the first thing I want to know is what is the source of the odour
– Adam Gilders

The Heart is a Sandwich, the new body of work by American artist Jason Fulford, will launch at Micamera on April 27, 2023. The work is a collection of twelve stories drawn from a decade of encounters with Italy, including meetings with ball-breaking bakers, an exploding museum cellar (the GAM in Milan), Aldo Rossi’s notes on happiness, the center of the Earth, and Guido Guidi’s garage. The book, newly released by MACK, takes the form of a novel-sized paperback. You can find it here

The exhibition will be displayed in an installation inspired by renaissance sinopia, preparatory drawing used for fresco painting; art historians use it to study the genesis of works or afterthoughts. Fulford will freely use drawings to hint at inspirations or references of the actual work exhibited on the gallery walls.
Fulford’s pictures are deceptively simple, imbued with a gift for composition that brings forth metaphors and meaning. Known internationally for his skill as an editor, Fulford uses layered articulation and careful sequencing to suggest ambiguous meaning and invite endless reading.

In every life, some things are more important than others. So is in a bookshop and gallery’s life and so is this exhibition.
