Workshop: Dana Lixenberg & Jenny Smets – Show Me Your Work!

29 October 2022 @ 10:00 - 18:00

€170

Saturday, October 29 from 10 am to 6 pm

A one day intensive work session on how to present your photographic work to a professional audience.
Whether you are writing a grant, looking for a publisher or seeking a gallery, it is crucial to know how to present your porfolio – both in images and text – and speak to a professional audience.
Dana Lixenberg and Jenny Smets will give you precious insight and tips.

The workshop, limited to only ten participants, will include a dedicated review of the way you present yourself via your portfolio. You will be given precise indications for the material to prepare before the workshop.

Dana Lixenberg is known for her stripped-down portraits that revel in the elemental characteristics of her subjects. The power of the work arises from its intimacy, compositional rigor and, importantly, the absence of social stereotyping. Besides her extensive editorial practice, for which she photographed many cultural icons, she pursues long-term projects with a primary focus on marginalized communities. These projects include Jeffersonville, Indiana (2005), The Last Days of Shishmaref (2008) and Imperial Courts, 1993-2015 (2015) Her work is collected widely and has been exhibited at institutions such as Aperture Foundation, New York (US); Mai Manó Ház, Budapest (HU); Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam (NL); Centre Photographique, Rouen (FR); MMK, Frankfurt am Main (DE); The Photographers’ Gallery, London (UK); Busan Biennale (KR); Huis Marseille, Amsterdam (NL); LACP, Los Angeles (US); and Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam (NL).
In 2015 she published Imperial Courts with Roma Publications; with the same publisher, she released Tupac Biggie in 2018.
The strong collaboration with Roma led, in 2022, to the publication of Lixenberg’s latest book, which will be presented by Micamera on Friday, October 28: Polaroid 54/59/79.
