Workshop with Raymond Meeks

19 March 2022 @ 10:00 - 20 March 2022 @ 18:00

19 March 2022 @ 10:00 20 March 2022 @ 18:00

Saturday, March 19 and Sunday, March 20 from 10am to 6pm

In this two-day workshop, Raymond Meeks will explore the narrative and poetic qualities of photography and the photobook.
He will investigate landscape and portrait photography, drawing on pictures centered on memory and place, that reside in the liminal space between personal documentary and our shared, common experience.

The workshop will begin with a presentation of Meeks’ work: the inspiration and creation of past projects, the books and his ongoing practice.
What does it mean to make photographs that rely on observations found in the world close to home but that are then shaped and altered according to the artist’s vision?
How can a photograph portray another person with some degree of ‘truth’?

The second day will continue with group portfolio reviews plus a series of exercises, drawing on the participants’ production and inspiration.

During the workshop, Meeks will explore how research fuels and inspires his practice. This will help participants to consider and connect more deeply to their own practice and to consider their work in relation to research, experience and expanded contexts.
