JASON FULFORD (1973) is a photographer, co-founder of J&L Books, and a Guggenheim Fellow.

He is a frequent lecturer at universities, and has led workshops across the United States, in Japan, Italy, Poland, Latvia, Britain, Canada, Luxembourg, The Netherlands, Germany, Spain  and Slovenia.

His monographs include Sunbird (Bird Entertainment, 2000), Crushed (J&L Books, 2003), Raising Frogs for $$$ (The Ice Plant, 2006), The Mushroom Collector (The Soon Institute, 2010 and 2014), Hotel Oracle (The Soon Institute, 2013), Contains: 3 Books (The Soon Institute, 2016), The Medium is a Mess (Studio Blanco, 2018), Clayton’s Ascent (TBW, 2018) and Picture Summer on Kodak Film (MACK, 2020).

He is co-author with Tamara Shopsin of This Equals That (Aperture, 2014), Find Colors (Phaidon and Whitney Museum, 2018), A Pile of Leaves (Phaidon and Whitney Museum, 2019), and Offline Activities (The Ice Plant, 2020). Together with Gregory Halpern he co-edited The Photographer’s Playbook (Aperture, 2014).

Fulford’s photographs have been described as open metaphors. As an editor and an author, a focus of his work has been on the subject of how meaning is generated through association.
