As it is. . Nothing more. Rinko Kawauchi forces herself not to pretend anything in this sequence, which brings her back to her initial themes: family, her surroundings. The only desire is to tell us life as it is. To tell the truth.

The course of a river and the changes of light through the seasons accompany the birth of her daughter, her first steps, her entrance into the world. It is an apparently simple world, that of the photographer, made up of small luminous details: insects, a bowl of rice, the little head of her newborn daughter, a small hand pointing to a spider’s web.

The way of life promulgated by Shintoism, the ethnic religion of the Japanese people, once again makes its way through the pages of Kawauchi’s latest book, preaching that no subject is too small or trivial to be considered. Everything makes sense just by being the way it is, it is then the responsibility of the viewer to ask what is happening or what will happen. The texts included are only in Japanese, a complex, almost exclusive choice. As if Kawauchi had no voice except in his mother tongue, and any translation would not be able to support the depth of his flow of thoughts.
