Swiss-born, Amsterdam-based artist Batia Suter presents a recent project in which she deals in a humorous and indirect way with the fundamentals of sculpture. The book is comprised of reproductions of protective packaging material for fruits, vegetables, and headphones, interspersed with collected images of armour. The sense of a fossilised present offers a new perspective on the artist’s phylogenetic approach to imagery and her appreciation of unintentional beauty.

Batia Suter works on photo-animations, sequences and collages of images that are often not her own but found. The underlying themes of his practice are the ‘iconification’ and ‘immunogenicity’ of images and the circumstances in which they are charged with new associative values. His work intuitively places old images in new contexts to provoke reactions of surprise and new possible meanings. With this method, and thanks to a sensitivity attentive to underlying harmonies and expressive incidents, Suter generates suspended spaces in which images can communicate with their own logic, in a force field of imaginative metamorphosis.

Previous books include: Parallel Encyclopedia #1 (2007 and 2021) and #2 (2016 and 2018) and Radial Grammar (2018) – all published by Roma Publications and available at Micamera.
