Belfast – Krass Clement

Taken a few years before the ceasefire of 1994, the photographs in ‘Belfast’ recount a city on the brink of crisis, both economic and social, following the downward spiral of the shipping industry and decades of conflict.
Clement wanders around the poor and run-down neighbourhoods documenting daily life with a sharp yet uncritical gaze, highlighting the imbalances and contradictions of those years, amidst children playing ball and soldiers stationed in a courtyard, in a grey and rainy Belfast.
