An expanded version of the renowned 1976 volume, ‘Carnival Strippers, Revisited’ takes us into the world of strippers who danced at country fairs in New England, Pennsylvania and South Carolina in the early 1970s.
Interviews with the dancers, their boyfriends, managers and spectators, recorded by the photographer, accompany the images, adding a crucial piece to the visual exploration of this complex phenomenon in which the prospect of economic freedom was accompanied by exploitation and objectification of the body.
Created during the early years of the feminist movement, the project documents the search for identity and liberation at a time of struggle and great change.

The second volume of the boxed set contains contact sheets, letters and other materials collected by the author in the course of her research, offering a never-before-seen view of the famous photographer’s working methods.
