Mimmo Jodice was born in Naples, in the popular district of Sanità, on March 29, 1934. In the early sixties he discovered photography and began a series of experimentations on photographic materials and the possibilities of the medium as a creative tool. During these years he lived in close contact with the most important avant-garde artists who happened to be in Naples.
His collaboration with the director and musicologist Roberto De Simone, whom he met in 1969, consolidated his interest in the festivals and religious rituals of Naples and the South and his passion for anthropological investigation. Together with De Simone, he published this volume in 1974, accompanied by a 45 rpm with the music and voices of the processions.
