Taryn Simon lived at John F.Kennedy International Airport from November 16 to 20, 2009. Here there is the largest transfer of international passengers than any other U.S. airport.
The work “Contraband” is a sort of catalog, including photographs of all those items (more than 1000) held or seized from passengers heading to the United States.
Among them, just to mention a few: counterfeit American Express; Jamaican rum, heroin, a dead hawk, an illegal Mexican passport, Cuban cigars, gold dust, fake Louis Vuitton bags…
