Contravisiones – Joan Fontcuberta

The result of an exploration of Fontcuberta’s archive, ‘Contravisiones’ focuses on photographs from the early years of the Spanish artist’s career and is based on a fundamental concept of his research, that of “counter-vision”: the set of elements that undermine the language of photography from within, constantly questioning its veracity and rebelling against its very logics.

The images, interesting as much for what they conceal as for what they reveal, share a surreal, sometimes dreamlike atmosphere, provoking our imagination by their elusiveness in depicting what we call reality.
