Dark Matter is the result of Ron Jude’s reflection on the state of things in today’s USA: using as ‘raw material’ the photographs from his Idaho hometown newspaper, the same ones that in 2006 had found their way into the pages of ‘Alpine Star’, Jude interweaves a narrative of violence and bewilderment, suspended in uncertainty and suffused with omens of tragedy.
Balancing images that evoke a creeping sense of helplessness and an irrepressible desire for control, the sequence unfolds as tightly as it does enigmatically, creating fictitious relationships between the various images and exploiting the sense of veracity normally associated with news stories to criticise their intrinsic ambiguity.
