Evidence of a youthful impulse for liberation from the social shackles of Soviet oppression, the kids portrayed become emblematic of the fleeting transitional period of a world marked by the still-fresh scars of a past of raw suffering, determined at the same time to turn over a new leaf, to forget in order to start living.
