When in 1980, in a dusty basement, Joan Fontcuberta and Pere Formiguera unearthed the long-lost archives of German zoologist Peter Ameisenhaufen, they could not have imagined the extraordinary content they would reveal: incredible and unknown animals, all described in detail and photographed, were revealed to their eyes between the ruined pages of the folders.
Dr Ameisenhaufen had proved the existence of these animals with evidence that included detailed field notes, X-rays and photographs of the specimens both in their natural habitats and in the laboratory.
Fauna, an amusing and witty reflection on the legitimacy of photography in the representation of reality, is the volume presenting these exceptional sources for the first time in an Italian edition.
Published for the exhibition Fauna at Kosmos, the Natural History Museum of the University in Pavia, the book includes two new artworks, realized especially for the exhibition.
The volume will be available for purchase exclusively on Micamera’s website only until the day of its presentation (October 6th), it will then be available again from January 2024.
