First Trip to Bologna 1978 / Last Trip to Venice 1985 is the result of Seiichi Furuya’s desire to preserve his memories with Christine Gössler. The two lovers experienced seven years of relationship, between the intimacy of their home in Graz and numerous trips abroad, including Italy, England, Japan and Germany. It is in Berlin, where Christine took her own life in 1985, after early signs of schizophrenia.

In 2018, Seiichi Furuya found super 8 film rolls in his attic. One of them was a recording of the very first trip he made with Christine, in Bologna in 1978 a few weeks after they had met. The author started extracting stills from the film, frame by frame.

These pages are filled with delicacy and melancholy, pervaded by a suffused atmosphere, typical of the dreamlike vagueness of distant memories. Here, Christine’s elusive presence emerges.
