The images evoke nostalgia and longing, inviting reflection on the transient beauty present in the ordinary. A glimpse into a personal journey, transcending documentation to become, more significantly, an exploration of human experience. In Jonquet’s realm, time stands still, the banal is transformed into the extraordinary and untold stories are read aloud “It feels as if there is something concealed within these pictures. It pertains to the inner journey of self-reflection that I have been undertaking for the past 20 years. This wonderful book is his first publication and brings together very diverse photographs taken over the last 20 years.

The images evoke nostalgia and longing, inviting reflection on the transient beauty present in the ordinary. (…)“My family resembles an archipelago composed of five islands interconnected by underwater foundations. I have a sense of being both with and beside these islands, observing them from an external perspective. Maintaining a certain distance allows me to photograph them. But deep down, I yearn for that distance to diminish.”

François Jonquet Void confirms to be one of the most interesting publishers on the international scene. The book is an almost disjointed object in the sequence, though ultimately perfectly balanced: a story in which the images seem to take over, only to disappear and leave us only with the impression of the author’s gaze.
François Jonquet lives in Bordeaux, where he works as a general practitioner for the deaf community. Born 1967, he has been photographing since the eighties. This beautiful book is his first publication.
