Retrospective on the work of Frantisek Drtikol curated by Katerina Klaricova

After attending courses at the Lehr und Versuchsanstalt fur Photographie in Munich, he opened his studio in 1907 in Prague and specialised in portraits of personalities of the time. His most important production is related to the study of the nude.

In his pictures, the pictorialist and symbolist style gives way to more modern compositions that find similarities with the avant-garde works of the time, particularly those of Cubism. He realises new dynamic relationships between the female body and emblematic wooden geometric elements that suggest Futurism’s own sense of movement.

Between 1930 and 1935 he only photographed statuettes. When he closed his studio in 1935, he devoted himself to painting, meditation and Oriental philosophy.
