Swedish photographer Gunnar Smoliansky has been involved in photography since the 1950s, initially working as an assistant and then attending Christer Strömholm’s courses.

Between 1956 and 1965 he worked as an industrial photographer and since 1965 he has worked as an independent artist. Smoliansky works exclusively in black and white and develops his photographs by hand in a darkroom. Stockholm was the focus of Smoliansky’s photographic world, particularly the areas of Södermalm and Saltsjö-Boo, where he lived and worked for most of his life.

This pair of books explores Smoliansky’s photographic work, focusing on nine publications originally created by Smoliansky in collaboration with art director Henrik Nygren between 2002 and 2008.
