“A Handful of Dust” traces the history of the past century through some of its most unlikely though representative imagery centered on the concept of “dust”; this element, sworn enemy of photographic equipment, represents on the other hand a photogenic subject with broad metaphorical value.
The volume, designed to accompany Campany’s exhibition of the same name, curated for Le Bal, Paris, starting from the photograph of an artwork by Duchamp executed by Man Ray, guides us through 1930s dustbowl America, Mussolini’s final car journey and the wars in Iraq, collecting photographs by John Divola, Mona Kuhn, Gerhard Richter, Nick Waplington and Jeff Wall, among many others.
