Published on the occasion of the exhibition of the same name at the Milan Triennale, in Berlin encompasses two decades of photographic exploration – from the early 1980s until 2003 – creating an alternative portrait of the German capital and documenting the many changes the city has undergone over the years.

As Fulvio Irace writes in one of the two essays accompanying the images, ‘Figure nel Vuoto’: “With an ear tuned to Kafka’s metaphor (“the centuries have no hold on the fleeting moment”) and an eye turned to the Berliner Passagen, Chiaramonte mounts in slow motion an image of Berlin that concedes nothing to the triumphalism of more recent literature on the rebirth of the city, but on the contrary pursues its hidden worm of spleen in the less obvious articulations of its urban drafting.”
