Born and raised in the Forez region, at the foot of the Massif Central, photographer Christophe Agou travelled to the lesser-known areas of the region, inspired by silence and moved by the authenticity and charisma of the people he met. Over time, after gaining the trust of the farmers and their families, he began to document their daily lives, in an attempt to present an intimate and profound portrait of them. The resulting work is a meditation on life and death, and on the silence and solitude that are, in one way or another, always present in our lives.
The images are accompanied by a story written by John Berger, a well-known critic and author.
