Paolo Monti is considered a key figure in the history of post-war Italian photography and, in parallel with his tireless activity in the commercial and public sector, in 1947 he founded, together with some friends, the Gondola Photography Association, that would soon become an important avant-garde movement on an international level.
In fact, his modern and intellectual gaze is reflected in these images of a city that seems to hide from itself, yielding to well-defined lines and perspectives that have little to do with the humanist photography of the time and instead wink at the modernist movements.
There are many books by and about Paolo Monti and they are not all exciting, some are more interesting for the repertoire…but this one about Milan is absolutely one of the most beautiful.
