New York in the first half of the twentieth century as told by Arthur Fellig, known to the general public as Weegee. This volume changed the way we understand the practice of photojournalism and the history of the photobook. Images of crime scenes, fires, and rowdy crowds shot mainly at night clashed with the more composed and elegant style of the great photographers of the era who captured Manhattan, such as Stieglitz and Berenice Abbott, to name a few. The book echoes in design the style of street photography, direct and rough, but still full of emotion.

Expanded reprint featuring photographs that were not present in the rare 1945 edition.
