A book of pictures about the barriers we build to defend ourselves from others. In this case it is about hedges, magnificent sculptural hedges that surround our homes, captured in these black and white photographs by the artist Dieter Daemen. On the one hand, these giants seem to stand there to protect us from the indiscreet gaze of others – seen as always ready to invade and attack – on the other hand, they seem to somehow underline our naive need to modify and keep nature itself under control, always frozen in the same form. A project born out of a reflection on the problem of migration that later turned its gaze inwards, on our already barricaded cities.
