Perceived as a vulgar sub-genre, the photo novel has rarely attracted the attention of historians and museums, which appears to be an injustice given its worldwide success. It is this gap that this book and the exhibition at Mucem fill. Using photography, cinema, video, visual arts and new technologies, the corpus of images presented brings together the most beautiful creations of the photo novel. Some images are small masterpieces, mixing expressionism and realism and creating a unique iconographic language through which the photo novel tells the story of an era, its dreams, its fears and its developments.
