Some 57,681 square miles of the state of Illinois exist outside of Chicago. The great metropolis lies to the north of most – but not all – of this land.

Tim Carpenter and Nathan Pearce, one with a 35mm camera the other with a 4×5, the same tools they used for their previous collaboration ‘Still Feel Gone’ (Deadbeat Club, 2018), give us images of those parts of the land not occupied by the city, made up of streams, fields and farm roads, railway tracks and rows of trees marking property boundaries.
