‘Still Feel Gone’ is a unique collaboration between native Illinois artists Nathan Pearce and Tim Carpenter. Essentially we are looking at two books in one, with the work of the two photographers presented separately; yet the images of each are in intimate dialogue with the other. They have chosen a common theme – the railroad – to articulate a discourse made up of shared feelings about the landscape and the nature of desire. Nathan’s research is evident in these images made with a compact camera from the windows of legendary American trains, where the landscape creatively bends to the laws of speed. For Tim, the photographs taken with a view camera (placed on or near the train tracks in the county where he was born, along which the Wabash Cannonball once roared) speak both to an almost insistent urge to escape and to the pleasantness found in a clear view of today and the present.
