Originally published in 1974, ‘The Family Album of Lucybelle Crater’ is the best known body of work by Ralph Eugene Meatyard. It is immediately comic and tragic, grotesque and fascinating.
A series of 64 images portraying the artist’s wife, Madelyn, in her Halloween disguise, an old witch, in each shot joined by a different friend or relative.
In this edition we see the photographs in their original sequence and the captions that Meatyard wrote in his own hand once he put the work together.
