This monograph by Patrick Zachmann accompanies the exhibition dedicated to him at the Museum of Art and History of Judaism in Paris, presenting a journey through his work from the 1970s to 2015. This volume brings together a dozen of his major series, some of which have never been published.

The photographic work of the Magnum agency member, which is dense and complex, should be read in particular in the light of certain recurring themes that run through it: the first question, one of the most important, is that of Jewish identity; this identity is sought, explored and laid bare starting with an introspective look at the photographer’s family, a look that is then expanded in a search that spans several European countries.
These reflections are the starting point for many other paths the photographer takes, among them those of exile and disappearance.

In this collection, Zachmann’s images emphasise the fragility of our relationships with others, revisiting the rich archive resulting from decades of photographic work.
