Celebre per la sua scrittura coinvolgente e coerente, l’attività curatoriale e le conferenze, Campany ha collaborato con numerose istituzioni tra cui il MoMA di New York, la Tate e la Whitechapel Gallery di Londra, il Centre Pompidou e Le Bal di Parigi, l’ICP di New York, lo Stedelijk Museum di Amsterdam, The Photographer’s Gallery di Londra, ParisPhoto, PhotoLondon, The National Portrait Gallery di Londra, Aperture, Steidl, MIT Press, Thames & Hudson, MACK e Frieze.

Nel 2020 ha curato la Biennale für aktuelle Fotografie 2020 – The Lives and Loves of Images, con mostre in spazi di tre città tedesche (Mannheim, Ludwigshafen e Heidelberg), lavorando con 70 artisti da 13 paesi.
I progetti curatoriali recenti includono ACTUAL SIZE! Photography at Life Scale (International Center of Photography, New York, 2022); A Trillion Sunsets: A Century of Image Overload (International Center of Photography, New York, 2022); Gillian Laub: Family Matters (International Center of Photography, New York, 2021); Alex Majoli: SCENE (Le Bal, Parigi, 2019); The Still Point of the Turning World: Between Film and Photography (FoMu Antwerp, 2017).

Ha scritto molti libri, tra cui: Indeterminacy: Thoughts on Time, The Image and Race(ism), in collaborazione con Stanley Wolukau-Wanambwa (MACK 2022), Victor Burgin’s Photopath (MACK 2022), On Photographs (2020), So Present, So Invisible – conversazioni sulla fotografia (Contrasto 2018), A Handful of Dust (MACK 2015), The Open Road: photography and the American road trip (Aperture 2014), Walker Evans: the magazine work (Steidl 2014), Gasoline (MACK 2013), Jeff Wall: Picture for Women (MIT Press/ After all 2010), Photography and Cinema (Reaktion 2008) e Art and Photography (Phaidon 2003). Ha scritto più di duecento saggi per monografie e musei. Collabora con Frieze, FOAM, Aperture, Source e la Tate.
Campany ha conseguito un dottorato di ricerca. I suoi scritti sono stati premiati con l’ICP Infinity Award, il Kraszna-Krausz Book Award, l’Alice Award, il Deutscher Fotobuchpreis e il riconoscimento della Royal Photographic Society.
