Catalogo della mostra al museo Kunsthaus Wien di Vienna nel 1999. Dal 1949 Peter Beard assembla dei diari costruiti da fotografie accompagnate da interventi pittorici di vario genere, collage, scrittura, pennellate di colori. Dietro questo stile molto forte c’è un idea molto chiara:
“While I love the magic of photographs… I don’t think photos have the same impact as a work that’s been individually attended to by an artist who draws, paints, scrapes, carves, et cetera. I love the ease, speed and distance of photography, but there’s far more information in a real work of art, about the painter and subject. A photo is like a collected stone; it’s what you do with it that matters.” Peter Beard
Un bel volume ricco di fotografie e testi di Beard, dove emergono i temi che l’hanno reso celebre, l’Africa, la bellezza e il dramma, la decadenza dell’uomo moderno.
