A seven-year period spent between 2000 and 2006 in various European countries led the young Danish photographer Joakim Eskildsen to meet the Roma ethnic group who, together with other strains such as the Sinti or the Calé, are commonly referred to as Gypsies.
The Roma Journeys represents a personal memoir of these encounters while providing a real and contemporary view of a people who have always been discriminated against.
The beauty of the photos, the documentary importance of the work and the fine workmanship of the volume make The Roma Journeys one of the most beautiful social books published in 2007.
Joakim Eskildsen was a student of Pentti Sammallahti at the University of Art and Design in Helsinki.
